Tea can be a mirror. Chan ("Zen") is the practice of present-moment awareness.

This course takes you back to the golden age of Tea and Chan during the Tang and Five Dynasties periods. Through hands-on tea preparation, tea appreciation, and discussions of classic Chan gong'ans (kōans), you'll discover how tea can become more than a sensory or cultural experience—it can become a path to mindfulness, self-reflection, and inner cultivation.

Learn the fundamentals of tea preparation while cultivating mindful awareness through every movement. Discover the origins of Tea and Chan, and experience tea-making as a form of moving meditation.

Explore the spirit of "Tea and Chan are One" and how Chan masters used tea to challenge habitual thinking and awaken insight.

Move beyond external forms and turn your attention inward. Learn to relax deeply through tea practice and cultivate a new perspective on yourself and daily life.

Through classic dialogues of Chan masters, you'll explore the question, "What is Chan?" and discover that awakening is not somewhere far away—it is found in your own mind, words, and actions.

The course guides you beyond the flavors of tea and the aesthetics of tea ceremony, toward directly observing your own mind and seeing your true nature through a cup of tea.
